How I Work With Remote Clients
By Manu Mathew · Last updated 9 October 2026

I’m a Perl and WordPress developer based in Kozhikode, Kerala, India, and I take on freelance work remotely. This page explains how working together at a distance usually goes.
Quick answer
I work remotely with teams and businesses in India and other countries. I’ve worked with teams in the US, the UK and Germany, as well as in India. My time zone is India Standard Time (IST, UTC+5:30). Most of the work happens in writing, with a call when it helps, and access is arranged through separate accounts that you can remove at any time.
What work do I take on remotely?
- Perl development and maintenance: bug fixes, new features, performance, upgrades, database work, scripts, code reviews and moving old CGI applications to a modern setup.
- WordPress websites: new sites, redesigns, speed, security, fixes, migrations and ongoing care, for small businesses and agencies.
How do we keep in touch?
Mostly in writing: email, your issue tracker or a shared document, so decisions and changes are easy to look back on. We talk on a call when it helps, for example at the start of a piece of work or when a decision needs talking through. I work in English, and in Malayalam if that suits you better.
How does access work?
I ask for a separate account on the systems I need, such as your code repository, server or WordPress site, rather than anyone’s own login. You stay in control and can remove that access at any time, including when the work is done.
How does a piece of work start?
- You email me at manu@manu.co.in with a few lines about the system or site, what’s needed and any deadline.
- We have a short conversation, in writing or on a call.
- I take a first look, with whatever access you’re comfortable giving.
- You get a written scope and quote before the main work starts.
Frequently asked questions
What time zone do you work in?
India Standard Time (IST), which is UTC+5:30. India doesn’t change its clocks during the year, so the time difference only shifts when your own clocks change.
Do you work with clients outside India?
Yes. Most of the work happens online, so where you are rarely matters. I’ve worked with teams in the US, the UK and Germany, as well as in India.
How do you get access to our code or site?
Through a separate account for me that you set up and can remove at any time. I don’t need anyone’s personal login, and logins, hosting and domains stay in your name.
How much does remote work cost?
It depends on the work, not on where you are. I give you a quote after I understand what you need.
